How we make money.
Short version: we don't. Not yet.
GridPrepped is a passion project. It started because we wanted our own families to have a stronger preparedness grid in place, and once we'd done the work, it felt wrong to keep it to ourselves.
Nothing here is monetized today. If that ever changes, this is roughly what it would look like.
Affiliate commissions (Hopefully some day)
When we recommend gear like water filters, generators, or first aid kits, the links typically point to retailers like Amazon. If any of those ever become affiliate links and you buy through them, we'd earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only recommend things we'd actually use ourselves, and a commission would never change what we recommend.
Display ads (Eventually)
If the site ever grows enough to qualify for a respectable ad network, we might run a few unobtrusive display ads. Never in the middle of your emergency plan. Never autoplay video. Never inside your dashboard. If it would wreck the experience, it's not worth the nickels.
Newsletter sponsorships (That would be nice)
Someday, if the newsletter has a real audience, a relevant preparedness company might sponsor a section. Anything sponsored will be clearly labeled. We'll never let a sponsor write the editorial.
B2B services (Aspirational)
Property managers, HOAs, franchises, and similar organizations genuinely need continuity planning and team readiness tools. If we can one day build something valuable enough that they'll pay for it, that's the revenue stream that would keep the personal side free forever. For now, it's just a hope and a roadmap.
What we won't do.
Even if the money shows up someday, some things stay off the table.
We don't sell your data.
Your zip code, plan answers, household details, and usage stay yours. Not sold to data brokers, insurers, advertisers, or anyone else. See the privacy policy for specifics.
Editorial independence.
If we ever earn from affiliates or sponsors, those relationships won't shape what we recommend. If something better exists without a commission, we'll still point you to the better thing.
Paywalls on personal features? Never.
Emergency planning shouldn't be a premium feature. Every household should be able to build a plan, track supplies, and get local hazard alerts without paying for it.
Why we're doing this.
Because prepared families are calmer families. Because the grid is less reliable than it used to be. Because a neighbor who's ready is worth more than any gadget. If the site helps you prep one corner of your life that wasn't ready yesterday, we're doing what we set out to do.

If and when GridPrepped begins using affiliate links, this is how it works: when you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you.
